Other Ways to Give
Charity Navigator has awarded KCBX a 4-star rating, two years in a row, for demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency—an achievement reached by only 32% of nonprofits. You can find our rating on Charity Navigator here.

IRA Charitable Distribution
If you are 72 (70 ½ if you reach 70 ½ before January 1, 2020), you may be required to start taking withdrawals from your IRA. Did you know the IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) may be eligible for direct transfer to KCBX, Inc. as a gift, excluding it from your taxable income?

Using a Donor Advised Fund
A donor-advised fund is like a charitable investment account, for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about. When you contribute cash, securities or other assets to a donor-advised fund at a public charity, like Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or a community foundation like The Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth and you can recommend grants to virtually any IRS-qualified public charity.

Gifts of Stock
Many of our donors choose to make stock gifts to KCBX each year. Giving stock held more than 12 months offers a two-fold tax savings:
- Avoid paying capital-gains tax on the increase in value of your stock, and
- Receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift
Subtracting the tax savings from what you originally paid for the stock can result in a gift that costs just pennies on the dollar. This is an excellent giving option for stock that has appreciated substantially in value.

Employer Matching Gifts
Many companies in our area match their employees' contributions to non-profit organizations like KCBX Public Radio.
As much as we would like to take care of this for you, most matching gift programs require the employee to initiate the process. Typically this involves filling out a company form and sending it to KCBX at the same time or soon after the gift is made.
We will verify the receipt of the gift and send the completed form to the company. KCBX receives the matching gift within a few weeks or at the end of an accounting period, depending on the company's procedures.
The employer's gift is usually a dollar-for-dollar match of your gift, but the ratio can vary from .5:1 to 3:1, again depending on the employer.
Some companies even match the gifts of retired employees.
If you would like to increase the effect of your gift to KCBX, get in touch with your employee's human resources department to find out if they have a matching gift program and, if so, how to initiate the request.
Or, in many cases we can tell you whether your gift would qualify and help point you in the right direction. You can call Development Director Greg Perry at 805-549-8855 or email him at email@example.com.
