Journeys of Discovery: Concord Summer Jazz Festival celebrates 50th anniversary

Concord, California’s Summer Jazz Festival—celebrating its 50th Anniversary over the first ten days in August—has consistently attracted stellar performers, including Buddy Rich, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Tito Puente, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, and of course, Concord’s favorite son, Dave Brubeck.

To discover the past, present, and future of one of the West Coast’s premier jazz festivals, and a taste of life in Concord, correspondent Tom Wilmer visits with Concord Jazz Festival Historian Ellen Findlay Herdegen; Matt Zebley, director of Jazz Studies at Diablo Valley College; and Concord’s mayor, Carlyn Obringer.
