San Luis Obispo County real estate market among hottest in the nation

San Luis Obispo County's housing market is among the hottest in the nation according to a new list published by Realtor.com and highlighted through ConsumerAffairs.

The rankings are based on home demand and speed of sale in the county's largest 200 markets. San Luis Obispo County landed at No. 13 behind Santa Cruz (No. 12) and just in front of Ventura County (No. 14).

Jonathan Smoke is the website's chief economist and says his "Hot 15" list represents the nation's top locations for the spring real estate season.

His team calculated demand based on how long homes stay on the market, number of listings and how often those listings are viewed.

Smoke says San Luis Obispo County is currently a sellers market.

"So the good news is, you've got no risk of price declines and if you're an owner, you're in an absolutely fantastic situation," said Smoke. "But, if you're trying to get into the market, it can be a struggle."

Topping the list is the Dallas area (No. 1) followed by the California cities of Santa Rosa (No. 2) and Vallejo (No. 3). Other locations here in the state to make the list include San Diego (No. 6), San Francisco (No. 10) and Sacramento (N0. 15).
