Why Voting Matters: The November 4th Election

Broadcast Date: 9/18/2014

Who votes for what, and why, as well as why not?  ACTION reported in the 2006 General Election less than 64% of registered voters came out to vote. With more than 180,000 eligible voters in San Luis Obispo County, why don’t more people exercise their right to vote? With November 4th only a few weeks away, how informed are you about the upcoming election? Who can we expect to come out to vote, and why? What information about candidates and ballot measures will you need to make an informed choice, and who can you trust to get this material?

Join host Kris Kington-Barker as she speaks with guests Marilee Hyman, President of the San Luis Obispo League of Women Voters, County of San Luis Obispo, County Clerk-Recorder, Julie Rodewald, and Michael Latner, Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo who will discuss the importance of what will be voted on, as well as who votes, and how to increase voter turnout, among other things.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX.

Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
