Cal Poly brings home awards for Rose Parade float

Tom Zasadzinski, Cal Poly Pomona

After nearly a years-worth of planning and building, Cal Poly students bring home awards this week for their Rose Parade entry.

The Cal Poly Universities' float Sweet Shenanigans was named the "most beautiful, non-commercial entry."

For the second consecutive year, the group was awarded with the Lathrop K. Leishman Trophy, named for the Tournament of Roses former president and grand marshal.

The float also earned the "California Grown" designation, for the fifth year, by the California Cut Flower Commission, which recognizes floats decorated almost entirely with California plants and cut flowers.
