Vital Signs: Understanding Your Community
Broadcast date: 3/9/2017
What is the quality of life like in San Luis Obispo County? Do residents feel safe? Are there enough employment opportunities? Do people feel they have access to good schools and services? Is our community healthy? These are just a few of the questions that a consortium of public and private health, education, business, environmental, human service and civic organizations set out to answer when they began the ACTION for Healthy Communities project in the late 1990s. The Vital Signs report is compiled every three years through a collaboration of local organizations which sponsor the project. It is the longest running in San Luis Obispo County.
Now in its 7th edition, ACTION has just released the 2016 Vital Signs Report-- “Understanding San Luis Obispo County.” It is a comprehensive report which engaged more than 1,300 county residents.
Join host Kris Kington-Barker as she speaks with members of the ACTION for Healthy Communities steering committee, including Chair, Jeff Legato, with the San Luis Obispo County Planning Department, and Len Smolburd, Grants Manager with the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County as they discuss this comprehensive report, and how the data is used to satisfy a number of important goals of ACTION and for the community.
Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.
