Santa Maria police release route kidnapper used to molest girl

Santa Maria Police Department

Santa Maria Police are looking for a man they believe kidnapped and molested a girl this past Sunday night.

Investigators say the man took the girl from a common area at the apartment complex where she lived and escorted her to nearby Sanchez Elementary School where the lewd acts then took place. School was not in session at the time.

Sergeant Daniel Rios says the department has released the route, day and time that this crime occurred with hopes of generating more leads.

"Our goal would be that hopefully this will have some witnesses come forward that may have been present on this route," said Rios. "Maybe they saw something at the time seemed insignificant, but now with this information, realize there may be some significance to that."

Investigators say the man took the girl westbound from the 500 block of West Morrison, turned southbound along the east alley in the 900 block of South Railroad, and then cut westbound again through an apartment complex to the 900 block of South Railroad and used that street to access the Sanchez School grounds.

Officers believe the incident took place between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26.

Those with information are asked to call the Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau at (805) 928-3781, ext. 417 or ext. 284.
