UPDATE: The Atascadero Unified School District is preparing for students and staff to return to one of their elementary schools. San Gabriel Elementary has been closed for nearly two weeks, after threatening letters and a dangerous liquid were left on campus.

The district recently received preliminary results of safety testing showing no harmful chemicals have been detected on campus, but is waiting on the results of some remaining samples before classes resume at the location.

The District plans to re-key all the buildings on campus  and with the help of police, continue 24-hour monitoring of the school upon it's re-opening.

Original Story:

The FBI and local investigators are still working the scene at an elementary school in Atascadero, shut down Friday over a suspicious package and threatening letters.

Officials are busy trying to figure out who is responsible for Friday's threat at San Gabriel Elementary School.

Atascadero Police and the FBI are further testing the liquid package found on campus, which tested positive for a dangerous chemical substance.

Officials said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff, but the district and police have amped up security at other schools where San Gabriel students are attending class.

Jodie Cohen is the President of the San Gabriel Elementary PTA and has four children at the school. She said she's impressed by how this has been handled.

"You never expect something like this to happen at your school, with your children and so it's a little disconcerting and you worry a little, but I have full confidence in San Gabriel's teachers, staff and administration," said Cohen.

"They care for these kids just as much as anybody else and they will do all they can to keep them safe. Because of that, I feel fine."

Atascadero Police said it doesn't appear anyone was exposed to the chemical, but the district will have an industrial cleaning team inspect the school.
