Pride Month is kicking off in San Luis Obispo with a series of events to celebrate the local LGBTQ+ community.
The Gala Pride and Diversity Center is teaming up with Central Coast Pride to host events all across the county through May and June for Pridefest.
Linnea Valdivia is with the Gala Pride and Diversity Center.
“Our theme this year is ‘then, now, forever,’ and that's a reminder to all of us that queer people are a part of this community, and they have been for forever for as long as this community has existed, and I think it's a really important thing to recognize that and uplift and celebrate those folks,” Valdivia said.
The biggest event is Pride in the Plaza, happening Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo. It’s an all-ages event with more than 65 vendors, live music, drag shows, dancing, community resources, and plenty of food and drinks.
The next day, Sunday June 1, Trans Pride in the Park runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Meadow Park in San Luis Obispo.
Both events are free and open to everyone, and organizers say they expect thousands to attend. Other Pride Month events in Cambria and Atascadero will continue throughout the month of June.
