Annual gay pride celebrations are underway along the Central Coast and will continue through Sunday.

Thousands are expected to turn out for Santa Barbara's main pride event at Leadbetter Beach on Saturday and San Luis Obispo's festival on Sunday in Mission Plaza.

In addition to these, both counties have a variety of other social and informational events. One popular annual offering is the free legal forum held at the San Luis Obispo County Library tomorrow morning.

Local attorney Doug Heumann says a wide range of legal topics are typically discussed, including marriage and family, trusts and estates, and employment.

"I know in talking to people, they seem to go almost every time we have one, and they say they always learn something" said Heumann. "It also maybe gets them a little closer to maybe making that will or that trust  that they know they should do and they haven't done."

The San Luis Obispo events are put on by GALA of the Central Coast. The Santa Barbara events are put on by the Pacific Pride Foundation.

Gay pride celebrations got their start in the late 1960s following the Stonewall uprising in New York... where bar patrons were beaten and arrested simply for being gay.
