SLO Film Fest on the rise

San Luis Obispo International Film Festival

The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival is now underway, with opening night ceremonies at the Fremont Theater.

You may spot television's Adam West in town, as he's in San Luis Obispo to talk about the new documentary Starring Adam West, focused on his life and career. West played television's Batman in the 1960s, and is the voice of the Mayor West on the Fox cartoon Family Guy.

Academy Award-winner Jeff Bridges will be in town on Saturday to receive the King Vidor Award. Former King Vidor Award recipient, James Cromwell will present the award, followed by a conversation with Bridges, and a screening of one of his films.

Despite being around for 20 years, organizers say the SLO Film Fest is just now beginning to make its place among the city's annual events.

"I think people are sort of waking up finally and going 'wow, we have a really cool film festival in this town' and I think because it's county-wide too," said festival organizer Wendy Eidson. "It 's taken a little while for people to realize what a great event it is, and I feel like our attendance this year is going to go way up."

Sunday's schedule is all about local Central coast filmmakers and subjects, with 15 films from San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Monterey Counties shown at venues throughout the area.
