The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team is now part of the effort to look for evidence related to the rape and beating of a 19-year-old UCSB student.

After being treated Sunday at a Santa Barbara area hospital, the student went to recover with her family.

The search and rescue team joins the Isla Vista Foot Patrol and University of California Police in investigating the crime. Teams are still trying to determine exactly where in the Isla Vista area the crime took place. They focus now is on potential crime scenes in East Isla Vista and on the UCSB campus.

"The victim was last seen between midnight and 12:30 a.m. walking northbound on Embarcadero Del Mar in the vicinity of Segovia Road," Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover said on Monday evening. Authorities are hoping somebody may have seen or heard something useful to the investigation.

The victim described her attackers as Asian males.

On Sunday, deputies used a K9 unit to search the UCSB and Isla Vista areas for signs of the crime and any information that could help identify and find those responsible.

Those with information regarding this investigation are asked to call 911 or leave an anonymous tip at (805) 681-4171.
