Trains cleared to pass through Cal Poly after SLO Transit double-decker bus collides with bridge

SLOStringer

Union Pacific Railroad said Monday evening that trains are running again through the Cal Poly campus, after a double-decker bus collided with a bridge earlier in the day.

Spokesperson Francisco Castillo said the tracks were cleared around noon and the bridge was deemed later in the afternoon. Trains had been halted since the collision with the Highland Drive over-crossing.

SLO Transit said the bus was out of service and had no public passengers at the time. The upper floor of that bus was significantly damaged.

SLO Transit said the driver got "off route" but the agency has not explained the incident beyond that.

"The bus driver was uninjured but the bus sustained significant damage to the upper floor and has been transported back to the SLO Transit yard for review and eventual repairs," the agency said in a media release.
