Redwood City approved more than a year ago the kind of affordable-housing project California desperately needs: a 20-unit building, downtown, near transit lines, in the heart of Silicon Valley, where the state’s housing crisis is most severe. The developer was a nonprofit, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco. But today the lot remains vacant, except for a row of portable toilets, a trailer and a dumpster.

A Habitat for Humanity project in Paso Robles is such a success that it’s becoming an example for the organization of how to best use resources. 

Habitat for Humanity of San Luis Obispo County has been part of the community for nearly 20 years. They construct, rehabilitate and revitalize homes in neighborhoods for very-low to low income communities.

KCBX Reporter Jordan Bell speaks with the CEO of Habitat for Humanity, Julia Ogden, of San Luis Obispo County about how they're expanding their mission.
