A New Chapter for Local Libraries

Although many may think traditional libraries have outlived their purpose; these evolving institutions are seeing a resurgence as cornerstones of education, innovation, somewhere to access new technology, and a place to create community. Nowhere may this be truer than on the Central Coast where libraries are thriving. According to the California State Library, between 2010 and 2011 in San Luis Obispo County a total of 2,432,510 items were checked out.

How are our libraries evolving to meet the needs of Central Coast residents? And how are community groups working in partnership with local municipalities to leverage opportunities to benefit residents? Host Fred Munroe is joined by Christopher Barnickel, Director of Libraries with the County of San Luis Obispo, Joseph Laurenzi, the Regional Librarian for North San Luis Obispo, as well as Stacey Hunt, with the Foundation for San Luis Obispo County Public Libraries to discuss the libraries of today.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX.
