Members of the Lucia Mar teachers union approve salary agreement
Members of the Lucia Mar Unified Teachers Association (LMUTA) voted to ratify a tentative agreement reached earlier this month with the Lucia Mar Unified School District.
Bargaining between LMUTA and the District had come down to the wire, with teachers threatening to strike within days.
"This is welcome news and the District congratulates LMUTA and its members for bringing our lengthy negotiations process to conclusion," the District said in a statement.
The agreement calls for a three percent salary increase starting April 1, 2015, and an additional three percent at the start of 2016.
There are still two more steps that need to be taken before teachers will see their salary increases take affect. First, the District must submit the agreement to the County Office of Education for fiscal oversight approval. Then, the agreement will go to the Board of Education for final approval, the District said.
This process could be completed by mid May.
