Atascadero is getting its first cancer care center in July. The new UCLA Cancer Care Center will soon bring world-class treatment to North San Luis Obispo County.
The center will specialize in cancer, blood disorders, leukemia and lymphoma.
Right now, North County patients often drive up to 40 minutes to UCLA’s San Luis Obispo location– or nearly two hours to the next closest location in Salinas. The new center will spare many cancer patients from long and difficult commutes to get the care they need.
It also helps address the Central Coast’s healthcare shortage. According to the California Health Care Foundation, more than 500,000 people throughout the Central Coast live in areas without enough primary care providers.
The Atascadero center opens in later this month.
