New law allows beer tasting at California farmers markets

AvilaBeachPier.com

A new law signed by Governor Jerry Brown allows for beer tasting at local certified farmer's markets in California.

Current legislation allows for wine tasting at farmer's markets, but beer has been left out of the mix until now.

San Luis Obispo County Farmer's Market Association Administrator Peter Jankay says the association will discuss the bill in the coming weeks.

"At this point here there's a lot of things that we do not know the details about," Jankay said. "So were definitely going to look into this and see whether or not this would be something good for not only the farmer's market but also the community as well."

The new law creates another platform for local, mostly craft breweries to market their alcoholic beverages.

No more than eight ounces of beer could be poured for a single individual, and local brewers can't sell more than 5,000 gallons a year.

The new law takes effect January 2016.
