Santa Barbara County asks cannabis growers to register

Greta Mart

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors is encouraging those who have six or more cannabis plants for non-personal use to register the plants online.

The county says it would use the information to collect data for future studies. The registry program asks people to provide information on the scale of their past cannabis growth and plans for the future.

The county currently doesn't have applications for cultivation, but will if the board of supervisors opts to adopt regulations down the line. County officials say those who register now may receive "priority review" if they submit an application for the cultivation.

The deadline to register is next Friday; find the application here.

Back in September, San Luis Obispo County asked all county cannabis growers to apply for approval. About 450 applicants turned in their paperwork, and about 300 have been approved, according to San Luis Obispo County spokesperson Guy Savage.
