San Luis Obispo elevated to gold level status for bicyclists

City of San Luis Obispo

The City of San Luis Obispo is now ranked as one of the top places in the nation to cycle.

The League of American Bicyclists updated its list of Bicycle Friendly Communities on Monday and in the process elevated San Luis Obispo from Silver to Gold status.

Only a couple of dozen communities nationwide have reached that level.

“Bike SLO County couldn’t be more excited to hear the news that SLO was designated as a Gold Bike Friendly Community BFC Chart this morning.” said Dan Rivoire, Executive Director of Bike SLO County. “As we join three other Gold Level cities in California and twenty-three Gold Level cities throughout the US, people in our City and County are starting to really realize how awesome it is that our community is building safer streets for everyone."

Platinum is the next highest level with just five U.S. cities making that cut. Diamond is the absolute highest level, and currently no communities have met those qualifications.
