Journeys of Discovery: Exploring Tennessee’s rural destinations

Join correspondent Tom Wilmer for an exploration of Tennessee’s rural realms. Discovery Park of America is located in Union City a 3-hour drive from Nashville. The park features an array of attractions focused on science, technology, engineering and math, a vintage train depot, log cabins, a Titan missile and much more.

Next up is the historic village of Rugby, 75 miles from Knoxville. Rugby was established in 1880 as an experimental utopian community.

Morristown is a small town just 50 miles from Knoxville, but its economic engine is dynamic, with an array of manufacturers, including a Colgate Palmolive factory and the newly arrived international bus manufacturer Van Hool.

Monroe County is just an hour’s drive from Knoxville but it’s a realm, where small town life is vibrant and outdoor activities rule, including Craighead Caverns, home of The Lost Sea Adventure where cave tours include the world’s largest underground lake—complete with boat rides.
