Record-breaking heat on the Central Coast expected to subside for the weekend

File

Adding to the seriousness of the drought along the Central Coast and throughout California are record-breaking temperatures this week.

The National Weather Service says Thursday's high of 91 degrees in Paso Robles broke a record set in 1988 by three degrees. San Luis Obispo's high at the airport and at Cal Poly hit 90, also breaking a record.

Santa Maria came in at 93 degrees yesterday afternoon and Santa Barbara hit 88, both very warm but not record breaking.

Los Angeles broke a record on Thursday with a high of 92 degrees. This marks the fifth time this month that the city's official high crossed the 90 degree mark, the first time that's ever happened. The previous record (three times) for that statistic happened in March of 1997, 1988, and 1934.

Temperatures along the Central Coast should be a bit cooler on Friday, and even more so as we head into the weekend.
