Laurie McAndish King visits with Danny Murtagh, Vice President of Engineering and Helen Han, Marketing Director, for Embarcadero Center’s owner, Boston Properties, as they discuss the upcoming official kickoff for San Francisco’s 2016 holiday season—the Winter Carnival and Lighting Ceremony at the Embarcadero Center.
Danny tells the story of how the four buildings came to be lighted up—they started out with appliance light bulbs, and have been upgraded over the past 30 years to be much brighter and more energy-efficient. And he shares a secret about the best place to view the lighting ceremony and the fireworks that follow.
Helen tells us about the special events planned for this year, including train rides, face-painting, a petting zoo, and appearances by Santa Claus and Minnie and Mickey Mouse. Your family will also enjoy the live performances from Disney On Ice’s Worlds of Enchantment, including high-speed stunts as Lightning McQueen and the crew of Disney•Pixar’s Cars race across the ice!
Also appearing are Ariel and The Little Mermaid’s undersea kingdom, plus Arendelle with sisters Anna and Elsa and pals Olaf and Kristoff from Disney’s Frozen. And the toys are back in town with heroic action when Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the Disney•Pixar Toy Story gang escape Sunnyside Daycare in their most daring adventure!
The free festivities begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 18th. The lighting and fireworks will be at a little before 7 p.m., with family ice-skating available afterward. Parking is free for four hours at the Embarcadero Center. For more information visit embarcaderocenter.com or call the Holiday Ice Rink at 415-837-1931.
