Central Coast Voices: Taking action to prepare and protect against fire

Prevention is the key to public safety, and fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults, and the elderly are also at risk in fires, making it important for every member of the community to take some time every October during Fire Prevention Week to make sure they understand how to stay safe in case of a fire, how to prevent fires and how to reduce wildfire risk.

Join Kris Kington Barker as she speaks with Cal Fire about the thousands of hours they devote educating residents on measures to ensure their homes and property are fire safe. Her guests will be Cal Fire San Luis Obispo County Fire Department Chief Scott Jalbert, Division Chief and Forester Alan Peters, and Fire Captain and Public Information Officer Adan Orozco. They will discuss general fire prevention and safety, how they are teaching people how to adapt to living with wildfire, the importance of pre-fire activities to reduce risk and what a person should do in case of a fire.

Broadcast date: 9/26/19

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.
