GALLERY: Graduation congratulations

High school graduation ceremonies continue around the Central Coast this week, although in a very different manner than in years past. 

In the Santa Maria area, on June 5 at Pioneer Valley High School, 620 seniors earned their high school diploma. According to district spokesperson Kenny Klein, class valedictorian Val Naomi Mau is headed to UC Santa Cruz in the fall to study environmental engineering. Salutatorian Damian Magana, with a 4.36 GPA, plans to attend UCLA to major in mechanical engineering. At Righetti High School, 503 graduates are today celebrating the completion of their senior year. Class valedictorian Ian Tosches will attend Allan Hancock College, while salutatorian Bridget Lee is off to La Sierra University.

At Santa Maria High School, both class valedictorian Cristian Ramirez Morales and salutatorian Isaac Ochoa will attend UCLA in the fall. According to a district spokesperson, of the 591 members of the Santa Maria High School class of 2020, 133 are university bound, over 400 say they are heading to community colleges and six plan to join the military.
