A few hundred residents evacuated from a destructive brush fire in Paso Robles are now free to returnhome.

Firefighters have fully contained the fire that started just before 2 p.m. Monday in the Salinas riverbed. The fire quickly burned 15 acres and two homes—and damaging nine other buildings—before crews could stop its spread.

An eyewitness said at one point, the fire jumped Creston Road.

Evacuation orders were lifted at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

An investigation continues into the fire’s cause.
