The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department is running a campaign to increase awareness about COVID-19 vaccines in the community.
The Public Health Department is currently recruiting ‘vaccine champions’ throughout the county who can join the campaign to encourage residents to get their vaccines.
Michelle Shoresman is the public information officer for San Luis Obispo County Public Health. She said the department is encouraging people to get involved in the campaign by sharing facts and personal vaccine stories on social media.
The County has a group of ‘official vaccine champions’ and is actively recruiting businesses and individuals to join.
House of Bread in San Luis Obispo is offering a free loaf to anyone who is fully vaccinated, and they plan to join the county’s group of vaccine champions.
House of Bread started their offer on April 5. Owner Sheila McCann said she is excited to see the number of people who have shown up for a free loaf.
But she said people don't need to hurry to take advantage of the offer because she will continue it until California is out of the COVID-19 tiered reopening system.
“All of a sudden at 11:00 [this morning] we started to get a line out the door," McCann said. I’m happy to see people but at the same time, it’ll continue on. There’s no rush!”
Shoresman said the Public Health Department supports any efforts to encourage vaccinations.
In a statement to KCBX she said, in part:
‘We applaud anyone willing to help spread this message…We are especially aware that this has been a tough year for many businesses and providing an incentive might be difficult right now, but we commend any business that feels they have the means to offer a discount or incentive like this in these difficult times.’
Anyone can show up to House of Bread with their completed vaccination card to receive a free loaf.
