San Luis Obispo votes to continue half cent sales tax

SLO Citizens for Measure G, Facebook Page

Measure G passed Tuesday Night in San Luis Obispo, overwhelmingly with slightly more than 70 percent of the vote.

The Measure will continue the 1/2 cent sales tax in the city which is currently represented by Measure Y. Supporters of the Measure G committee include former elected leaders, community activists, environmentalists and some small business owners.

Recently re-elected Mayor of San Luis Obispo, Jan Marx, says she is glad the measure passed because they city would have faced budget cuts otherwise.

"The priorities for the expenditure of that Measure G money is really set by the residents, so people really need to think about what they want, and get organized and advocate for what they want when the budget process comes out," said Marx.
