Nation's strongest equal pay bill heads to Gov. Brown's desk

Jessica Paterson

The strongest equal pay legislation in the nation is headed to Governor Jerry Brown's desk to be signed into law, and it's likely he'll do just that.

The California Fair Pay Act authored by Central Coast Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) passed off the Senate Floor Monday with a unanimous 39-0 vote.

The bill would ensure women are paid equally for work that is substantially similar to the work of their male colleagues. It would also put into place safeguards against retaliation should a woman ask how much her male colleagues are paid.

Last week, one of the governor's top aids tweeted that Brown will sign the bill when it reaches his desk.
