  • Fred Munroe is a co-host of the KCBX talk show Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday afternoon from 1:00-2:00. Fred has successfully divided his time as a local entrepreneur, political leader, and communicator. He owns and manages two local firms addressing personal travel planning and public transportation; Travel With Fred and Ridership Development Consultants.
  • Janelle started doing radio as a teenager, hosting a program on her high school station. WXRT-FM, still an innovative force in Chicago radio, was a big influence on both her radio style and her listening choices. She majored in Broadcast Communications at Columbia College in Chicago, interning at a couple of radio stations along the way. She began her career as a radio traffic reporter in her early 20's, moving with news and traffic suppliers Shadow Traffic from Chicago to Los Angeles to San Francisco. After a move to the Central Coast in the 90's, she was a show host for KXTZ-FM, and the morning DJ for its sister station K-OTTER.
  • Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
  • Dr. Lata Murti is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday afternoon on KCBX from 1:00-2:00 p.m. After receiving her Ph.D. in American Studies & Ethnicity from the University of Southern California in 2010, Lata has dedicated herself to education, particularly in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging.
  • Laura Joines started her love of radio as a kid listening late at night to stations far away from her home in North Carolina. She has been a fan of KCBX since 1989 when she first moved to San Luis Obispo to teach architecture at Cal Poly. Currently a practicing architect, she spends her free time researching music to share with listeners. She is thrilled to be back in radio after starting as a college DJ at Vassar WVKR.
  • Every once in awhile, Monica Fiscalini is in the right place at the right time. She witnessed Elvis Presley’s funeral procession in Memphis. She sat in the audience the night the Everly Brothers broke up at Knott’s Berry Farm. She ate barbecue with Jimmie Dale Gilmore in Driftwood, Texas. And if you're in the right place at the right time, every once in a while you can hear her subbing on KCBX.
  • Neal started his radio career at Cal Poly SLO's KCPR in 1989. He started volunteering at KCBX in 1993, spinning discs every Saturday night on the Night Train, a show he still does today. In 1997 he joined the full-time staff of KCBX as the Music Director and the host of the Morning Cup. Neal has also worked for multiple commercial radio stations over the last 25 years, including K-Otter, K-Bear and The Beach. He has worked at record stores, promoted concerts, written music columns and published his own music magazine over the years. Neal loves sharing music any way he can, and always has, since his early days of taking James Brown 45s to his 2nd grade class for "Show and Tell."
  • Pedro Arroyo’s love for music was influenced by the diverse cultural sounds of his neighborhood of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles where he often heard local Norteño and Mariachi street bands as well as the sounds of Chicana/o punk, oldies and rock. Arroyo caught the radio “bug” while attending California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo and volunteered at KCPR 91.3 FM, Cal Poly’s College Radio station. He also hosted an international music program at KCBX for nearly two decades, before moving to the Bay Area. In addition, Pedro contributed to Audio Excursions, a weekly radio magazine about the Central Coast, and he served on the booking committee for the Live Oak Music Festival.
  • Sal’s musical tastes became twisted early by pre-teen exposure to Frank Zappa and Harry Partch. After studying Electronic Music in college, Sal founded the experimental ensemble National Debt and composed music for the Cal Poly dance company Orchesis and the Central Coast Shakespeare Festival.
  • Donna Cheek is a substitute staff announcer at KCBX. You can hear her on weekend mornings and on weekdays during midday and All Things Considered. Donna first came to KCBX in 2014 as a volunteer contributing producer for our radio magazine “Issues and Ideas.” Her segments covered animal-centric nonprofits located on the Central Coast of California.
