New water report finds high bacteria levels at Avila Beach

Each year, the Surfrider Foundation tests beach water across the country for signs of fecal pollution. Its new 2024 Clean Water Report ranked Avila Beach among the top 10 beach bacteria hotspots in the U.S.

The San Luis Obispo Creek Watershed is a coastal basin located in South County.

SLO County spills 7,800 gallons of wastewater and rainwater into San Luis Creek

About 7,800 gallons of sewage and rainwater spilled into San Luis Obispo Creek during this week’s storm. Officials are urging residents to stay out of the water at nearby beaches.

Crews begin flood control project in SLO creek

A highly invasive bamboo-like plant is growing at the bottom of San Luis Creek, near the Los Osos Valley Road bridge. The Land Conservancy of SLO County is working with the city and a local property owner to chop it down.
