KCBX News' Central Coast Curious is an ongoing series for which we invite listeners to ask questions and the newsroom reports back with answers. Since we launched the series last year, we've received several questions asking, "when will the Avila Pier reopen?" The pier is currently now open about a third of the way, but it's uncertain when the entire pier will be accessible to visitors.

Summer is around the corner. If you're someone who enjoys sports on the ocean, the Coast Guard would like you to take a few precautions before you get out on the water. KCBX's Tyler Pratt recently sat down with Petty Officer Cory Mendenhall to talk about paddleboardand kayak safety.

There are more than three hundred miles of ocean along the Central Coast of California, between Santa Cruz and Carpinteria.

Santa Barbara County Fire

Search crews have had no success looking for the body of a man swept out to sea Sunday during a baptism at the Guadalupe Dunes beach, directly west of Santa Maria.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department, California State Parks water rescue, and the US Coast Guard are the agencies working to locate the man.

On Monday morning, crews had reports of a body in the surf which turned out to be fishing buoys.
