Central Coast cuts back on water usage in July, exceeds Gov. Brown's mandate

Flickr member HereStanding

Central Coast residents and businesses cut their water usage by 30.6 percent in July, saving slightly more than June's 30.3 percent.

Statewide conservation efforts were even better. The Sacramento Valley region had the greatest savings with a conservation rate of 38.2 percent.

The South Coast—including portions of Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties, and all of Orange County saw the least savings at 28.3 percent. This area also represents more than half the state's population.

Still, all regions beat Governor Brown's mandated 25 percent reduction goal for the summer.

So far, August has been hotter and drier than July so it remains to be seen if this level of conservation will continue.
