In honor of Law Day, the SLO County Bar Association is hosting an essay contest for High School and Middle School students on this year's theme "The Rule of Law."
Middle School students should write about their American Dream and how the Rule of Law supports their ability to achieve that dream. High School students should discuss their vision of the American Dream for their generation and how the Rule of Law supports realization of that dream.
Essays should be between 500 and 750 words and emailed to slobar@slobar.org no later than 11:59 pm on April 3rd.
First place winners will receive cash prizes and certificates.
Snow & Wood is a new duo in town, with singer Lynette Snow (Spencer the Gardener, Sun Kissed) and guitarist/background singer Joe Woodard (Lucinda Lane, Headless Household, etc.), mixing up a songbook of R&B, blues and jazz, plus other items on the menu.

Opera San Luis Obispo is proud to present its Summer Opera Camp, a premier youth training program and one of the last remaining opera camps of its kind in the nation.This year’s camp features The Mikado, Jr. in partnership with Central Coast Gilbert & Sullivan. Students will learn, rehearse, and perform The Mikado, Jr. in a fully staged production at the conclusion of camp, while training at a professional level through one-on-one and group coaching in voice, movement, and collaboration, master classes, and performance preparation — then stepping directly onto the mainstage.
All campers are invited to perform in OperaSLO’s October production alongside professional singers and a full orchestra.

This collaborative exhibition celebrates the intersection of art and environmental stewardship, highlighting the efforts of the Oak Group, the UCSB Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration, and Coal Oil Point Reserve to conserve the Devereux Slough.
Art in Service of the Land invites viewers to explore how art documents, interprets, and amplifies the ongoing work of conservation, revealing the beauty and complexity of the North Campus Open Space (NCOS) and inspiring engagement with our local environment.
This exhibition was curated and cosponsored by the Oak Group and the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration, in collaboration with UCSB Library staff.
Exhibition runs from March 16 to June 26.
The Watershed Stewards Program and The Land Conservancy of SLO County are hosting a restoration event on SLO Creek.
We will be removing invasive plants such as cape ivy, English ivy, and castor bean along the creek. In addition to this, we will removing trash from in and around the creek to help protect steelhead habitat and help restore the creek.
No experience is needed to participate. Please bring sturdy closed-toe shoes, long sleeves, long pants, sunscreen, water, a hat, and waders if you have them. We will provide water, snacks, gloves, and some waders.
