High Fire Season is officially underway in Santa Barbara County, and fire officials are urging residents to take precautions.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department, along with CAL FIRE and other agencies, have declared the start of this year’s High Fire Season.

All burn permits are now suspended, and fire crews are on high alert, ready to respond to vegetation fires countywide.

Fire officials are asking residents to create defensible space around their homes to prevent fires. That means removing dry leaves and wood near walls, keeping grass short and cutting back brush and tree branches within about 100 feet of buildings.

They are also asking people to clear vegetation along driveways and private roads so emergency crews can get through safely.

Lastly, residents are reminded to prepare early, stay alert, and evacuate ahead of danger. More information on emergency alerts is at sbcfire.com and readysbc.org.
