Das Williams set to run for Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors
State Assemblymember Das Williams (D-Carpinteria) announced Monday that he's running for Santa Barbara County's First District Supervisor seat, come 2016.
Salud Carbajal currently holds the First District seat, but Carbajal is one of several candidates now running for Rep. Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) congressional office.
Term limits will keep Williams from running for a fourth Assembly term. He easily won re-election back in November with more than 58 percent of the vote.
In a statement posted Monday on Democracy.com, Williams said being a Santa Barbara County Supervisor is something he's wanted to do for a long time, and he sees this as "the opportunity of a lifetime."
Some political analysts had thought Williams might join the already crowded congressional race.
"Santa Barbara County is my home," Williams said in the statement. "I launched my first political campaign for Santa Barbara City Council out of my condo on the Eastside, I've attended church in Montecito for many years, and I've spent my whole life surfing Rincon. I can't wait to come back home and continue to serve this amazing, special community."
