Traffic on Los Osos Valley Road (LOVR) in San Luis Obispo will shift entirely over to the newly constructed bridge over Highway 101 on Friday morning around 5:30.

With this shift, the project officially moves to Stage 6 of 8.

"Stage 6 is expected to last for 4-6 months and will present some changes for motorists traveling through the area," said Caltrans District 5 spokesperson Jim Shivers.

These changes include:

  • The southbound 101 on-ramp will now be open and the intersection signal at the southbound ramp will now be inactive (dark).
  • LOVR bridge traffic will consist of one lane in each direction.
  • A sidewalk will be available for pedestrians, but a designated bike lane will not be in place until after the project is completed.
  • Cyclists will still be able to travel through the construction area.

Delays are expected during this time period due to the reduced number of lanes over the bridge.
"Drivers are encouraged to use the Madonna Road Interchange when possible and to allow for additional time to reach destinations in the near vicinity of the U.S. Highway 101 - Los Osos Valley Road Interchange," said Shivers. "The City and Caltrans would like to remind motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones."
