Bookworms, assemble! Woods is welcoming animal lovers ages 7 to 17 to join us in reading to our furry friends. Shelter life can be stressful, and reading is proven to relax and comfort companion animals. Book Buddies will be held at our San Luis Obispo location on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.

Holiday Harmony returns complete with our annual Tree Lighting at the end of the pier. Snow play, Santa visits, cookie decorating, bounce houses… it’s the coziest way to kick off the holidays by the sea.

The SLO County Friday Night Live Reindeer Run is a 5k fun run that promotes wellness and healthy lifestyles among youth and families in San Luis Obispo County. The 5k route begins at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo and follows the Railroad Trail to Orcutt Road, returning to Mitchell Park via Broad and Santa Barbara Streets. The majority of the course is on the trail or sidewalks, and will have volunteers cheering participants on along the way. Participants, volunteers, and spectators are encouraged to dress in their favorite holiday attire and kick off the winter season!

With family favorites like The Little Drummer Boy, Walking in the Air, It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, our traditional audience sing-along medley and more, this is going to be a holiday concert to be remembered. Bring your whole family to this One-Day-Only performance to celebrate the joy and spirit of the holiday season.

Calling all crafty, caring, pet-loving kids! Care Crew members will have the opportunity to join us in filling Kongs for our canines to enjoy in their kennels, crafting homemade pet toys, and creating art to help showcase our adoptable animals. Care Crew will be held at our San Luis Obispo location on Sundays from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

Join in the merriment at the annual Holiday Parade and Jingle Bell Dash. The Parade takes place from 5 to 7 pm in the beautiful village of Arroyo Grande, featuring more than 50 entries full of festive holiday lights, decorations, music, and holiday cheer. Right before the parade, children ages preschool to 6th grade are encouraged to enter the cutest race around--the Jingle Bell Dash!

Free to enter, participants chase the Grinch down Branch Street, beginning at 4 pm. Register early at www.arroyogrande.org/rec, or on the day of at 3:30 pm near Humdinger Brewing.

Get ready for the cutest, coziest, and cuddliest hour in your week! Pet Tales welcomes young children and their grownups for a pet-themed story time with our adoptable cats. Curl up with your little one in our ‘Cat Room’ and enjoy read aloud stories, bubbles, and (most importantly) our cats! Join us at our Atascadero location on Tuesdays from 11 am to 12 pm.
