The Cal Poly Music Department will present its first-ever Cello Fest from Thursday through Sunday, May 1-4. The second event will take place at 7:30 pm. Thursday, May 1 in Room 218 of the Davidson Music Center (No. 45). The third event will take place at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 2 in Room 218 of the Davidson Music Center (No. 45): “Tides of Memory” Emiko Wong Junior Cello Recital — Wong, a music major, will perform rhapsodic works by Samuel Barber, Alberto Ginastera, Philip Glass and Robert Schumann, in collaboration with faculty member Janet Joichi. Wong is principal cellist of the Cal Poly Symphony, and recently performed the Schumann Cello Concerto with the group as a Cal Poly Solo Competition winner. The Cal Poly Music Department will present its first-ever Cello Fest from Thursday through Sunday, May 1-4. The fourth event will take place at 2 pm, Saturday, May 3. Cal Poly’s Cello Ensemble will present its first full-length concert with a wide variety of genres and composers. Sarah Chang, a senior chemistry major and music minor, will perform the Elgar Cello Concerto with cello accompaniment; and Noah Bettelheim, a first-year music major will lead the ensemble in the world premiere of his work “Tiris,” which was commissioned for this concert. The Lompoc Valley Master Chorale is celebrating its 33rd season in the Lompoc Valley and is under the direction of Kathleen Abrams Hacker. The piano accompanist is Rachel Mello.Featured performers on the program include our Lompoc Valley Master Chorale Youth Chorale and special guest instrumentalists.
