May 21 Thursday
Próxima Parada is coming home for a one-night-only performance with the San Luis Obispo Symphony. The evening takes place at Harold Miossi Hall on the Cal Poly campus, where the band members attended college, met one another, and began making music together before becoming a touring band.
This concert brings the story full circle: local artists returning to the people and the institution that helped shape their journey from busking and playing at SLO coffee shops in 2012 to performing at clubs and theaters around the country.
Twanguero (Diego García), Latin Grammy Award–winning guitarist and internationally acclaimed Spanish guitarist, brings his intimate solo concert “Backroads of the Americas” to San Luis Obispo for a special one-night-only performance.
With only one guitar, Twanguero blends Spanish folk traditions, subtle Latin rhythms, American roots influences, and cinematic melodies into a warm and deeply human listening experience. His solo performances move effortlessly between elegance, groove, improvisation, and storytelling.
This special seated concert at the Unitarian Universalists San Luis Obispo offers audiences a rare chance to experience the expressive range of the guitar in a beautiful acoustic setting where music can truly live and breathe.
The Cal Poly Jazz Combos Spring Showcase is set in the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center. There are four jazz combos which explore a wide spectrum of jazz performance, from modern and traditional styles to original compositions and arrangements, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian–influenced repertory, and classic standards.

Join us at SLO Library for a screening and discussion of the documentary film To Climb a Gold Mountain with the film's Emmy Award winning director Alex Azmi.
This film tells the stories of four women of Asian descent who lived in America from the 1850s to the present day. The women came from different backgrounds and lived dramatically different lives. Some of the women featured in the film, such as Anna May Wong, have reached success and fame. Still others, like Sing Ye, who lived in the 1800s and fought for freedom, are all but forgotten.
Each woman’s story represents a distinct theme of struggle and triumph, and ushers in the succeeding story leading up to the present time. Through these stories, the film tracks the progression, evolution and legacy of the immigrants in America as they integrate into the fabric of America.
