Caltrans says crews have successfully fixed a sinkhole that caused the closure of a section of Highway 1 in Big Sur this week. The southern closure has now been moved back to Limekiln State Park.

This year’s heavy storms caused landslides in Big Sur, closing most of Highway 1 in the area. Now, parts of the highway are expected to partially reopen in July — but Caltrans says there’s still one major slide delaying a full reopening.

There is ongoing work on Central Coast highways right now, both to repair winter storm damage and to make general improvements.
