Are you overwhelmed and confused by the 411-page DEIR regarding the BESS proposed on the Embarcadero in Morro Bay? Where to start? Begin with our workshops: the two public workshops (April 20 & May 11), will provide a short orientation, study materials, resources and helpful tips for making your letter effective. We are a group of concerned Morro Bay citizens who have formed a committee to aid their neighbors in writing comments to the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the BESS project.Anyone who wishes to preserve the safety, natural resources, economy and character of Morro Bay is welcome. It is not necessary to be a Morro Bay voter to comment on the DEIR. Space is limited, please pre-register. Bring your own questions, enthusiasm, laptop, pen, pencil, paper and phone. Please RSVP to Jeanne Marie Colby by TEXT: (650) 773-1381

Celebrate Native Plant Appreciation Month with native plants, coffee, and used books. Enjoy a large variety of native plants for sale from Yes Yes Nursery and Manzanita Nursery, be inspired by educational materials from Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden and Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, cozy-up to a cup of coffee (and a bag of compost!) from Considered Coffee Co., peruse a selection of used books benefitting Museum education, and get creative with a free planter-painting activity.Native plants are vitally important to the biodiversity, beauty, and stability that make Santa Barbara County the ecologically rich place that it is. Healthy native plant populations are generally more self-sustaining and drought-resistant than non-native plants (and can therefore help in conserving water), and support the native pollinators and animals that rely on them for survival. From 11am to 1 pm, enjoy a free guided planter-painting activity. Bring your own planter or recycled container (pickle, peanut butter, or mason jars work great for this!), or take one of ours (while supplies last), and decorate a home for native plant seeds or seedlings!Yes Yes Nursery will also be offering a free sunflower seed packing activity for children at their booth in the back parking lot, with sunflower seeds, soil, and container included. In addition to their usual incredible coffee, Considered Coffee Co. will be selling compost from their closed-loop system and partnership with Isla Vista Coffee Collective (IVCC). Considered Coffee Co. donates their coffee grounds to IVCC for composting, and then later receives some back as composted soil to sell to the public.
