The Atascadero Community Band is turning 40, and we’re celebrating in style! Since 1985, this all-volunteer band has brought free music to the community—welcoming volunteer musicians of all ages and skill levels, and filling summers with unforgettable Tuesday evening concerts at Atascadero Lake Park. Now, four decades later, we’re honoring our roots, reliving favorite moments, and looking ahead to the next 40 years.
Expect an afternoon of powerful and sentimental music, community spirit, and a joyful trip down memory lane. Admission, refreshments and parking are free, donations are welcome, and everyone is invited! All donations will benefit Woods Humane Society.

If you want to do something about polarization, this is a good place to start. Polarization is perpetuated by how we talk with like-minded people about those we disagree with. Too often we add to the polarization when we stereotype, dismiss, or ridicule folks who support the other political party, its leaders, and/or its policies. This workshop will help you learn to disagree with more clarity and less reactivity; and give you some relief.

Join us for the first-ever Murder Mystery Weekend in the historic Village of Arroyo Grande - where history, community, and a little bit of mystery come together!
Over 15 local businesses will transform into characters and clue stops from The Curious Case of J.J. Branch—a murder mystery set in 1911, the year the village was officially founded. Pick up your "1911 Newspaper" from Monarch Books, starting at 10 am on Saturday, 11/1. The newspaper will provide the background story, character bios, event rules, and space to log your clues. Then visit each shop to interview suspects and hunt for clues to solve the mystery.
Submit your final guess to Monarch Books before 4 pm on Sunday, 11/2. Participants who guess the Suspect and Motive correctly will be able to enter a grand-prize drawing for the Winner's Basket. The grand-prize drawing will be at 5 pm on Sunday 11/2.
Free and family-friendly!
The Templeton Historical Museum Society will host a celebration of Founders' Day, the 1886 arrival of the first passenger train in Templeton. This day marked the town as the southern terminus of the train line from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Guests can enjoy the 12:00 presentation of colors by members of the American Legion, and learn about the history of the Salinan Tribe. Also:—the main house, blacksmith shop, and railroad depot will welcome visitors, showcasing Templeton's past —the museum will have antique vehicles, tractors, and railroad artifacts on display—"hit and miss" machinery will be in operation —blacksmithing demonstrations and music.
There will be activities for the young and young at heart, including cakewalks, games, and a 4-H petting zoo. As always, the Templeton Museum will offer free pie and cake, available until supplies run out—a Founders' Day tradition since 2006.

The Future of Night is a fun and educational family event. There will be remarkable deep space photos shown on a 135” movie screen and two outstanding speakers: Dr. Sandy Seale, Director of Development at Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) in Goleta and Jim Bean, engineer from NASA’s JPL.
Dr. Seale will discuss LCO’s part in the design and interpretation of data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, telescope, and the world’s largest digital camera. LCO owns 25 remote controlled telescopes around the world and boasts, “Our bold programs deliver interdisciplinary resources and inclusive collaboration to accelerate transformative scientific breakthroughs…. that no single individual or institution could do alone.”
Jim Bean designed mobility systems for the Mars Rovers. Currently he is the Engineering Management System Product Lead and the Oracle functional expert. Jim will share his firsthand knowledge about habitable exoplanets, potential life on Mars and inner workings of JPL.
Central Coast and Cal Poly Astronomical Society members will share their high-powered telescopes under a clear fall sky.
