The SLO County Air Pollution Control District says that smoke from the fires is pooling in coastal areas.

The Plaskett Fire in Big Sur continued to grow to more than 15,000 acres over the weekend.

A small fire called broke out in Pismo Beach Sunday. As of Monday morning firefighters say the 10-acre fire is now 90% contained. This is an ongoing story, updates will be added as more information becomes available.

Exceptions to the closure order are in place for firefighters, as well as for land owners and residents who are not currently under an evacuation order.

The Big Sur coastline is known for its dramatic ocean views and steep cliffs covered with redwoods. However, those very features can stall wildfire response.

PG&E is activating its Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings that they say will help them better predict, monitor and respond to wildfires.

With the weather warming up — and after a series of fires broke out in Santa Barbara County last week — emergency officials are warning residents to stay alert.
